Q The Shallows, What the internet is doing to our brains. Does the internet make you dumber? A great book that I love is called the "Shallows: What the internet is doing to our brains" by Nicholas Carr. It was reviewed by the New York Times here -- http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/books/review/Lehrer-t.html?_r=0Links to an external site. And the article PDF is here.Download article PDF is here. When you read what the review says and what I have to say below, I want you to debate the relation of the internet and similar technologies to our evolution - are they adaptable or not? Are they making us dumber? Think about people who were living before the internet was at your fingertips -- were they smarter because they had to work harder and were less distracted?

The internet or technology as a whole is not completely negative. However, I would definitely say certain aspects of it can be really damaging to humans. Mainly, social media is the worst outcome of technology in this generation. In a sense, I think generations that lived before social media existed were so fortunate. Social media has so many negative impacts, especially for people who get really caught up in these fake representations of others lives. Young people will spend hours on social media and it does absolutely nothing for them except corrupt their minds. Social media sets unrealistic expectations of life, can make you second guess virtually everything, and ultimately is a waste of time.
